@Pay had the honor of being involved in the second annual Startup Weekend Albuquerque, which took place from June 21 to 23. The event is part of a global grassroots movement designed to empower entrepreneurs by creating a space where they can pitch ideas and get feedback from peers. Over the duration of 54 hours, local groups generated business models, designs, intricate coding and final presentations.

“The Southwest has such a great supply of talented entrepreneurs so it was exciting to see them come together for a weekend to work toward building something truly great,” says Scott Maloney, @Pay’s Vice President of Strategy and Operations, who served as a judge at Startup Weekend Albuquerque. “I’m looking forward to seeing some of the participants from the weekend form their own companies, and I hope they have success.”
Fellow judges included Lisa J. Adkins (Director of The BioScience Center), Randy Asselin (RockTops Founder and CEO), Jonathan Hawkins (Manager, Advanced Technology and Strategy, PNM Resources), Travis Kellerman (VP Operations, POSLavu), Jessica Eaves Matthews (Founder & CEO, Leverage Legal Group), and Jared Tarbell (Etsy Co-Founder).
Other @Pay-ers participated in the event as volunteers, and our Creative Director, Chad Person, served as a coach, offering guidance on UX and pitch development.
