@Pay volunteers at Albuquerque Rescue Mission

If you’ve been reading the @Pay blog, you’re probably familiar with a few of our core values:  information security, consumer trust and payment convenience. What you may not have heard is that this company was founded with a mission to foster benevolence in the world. At least once per month we get together as a team and look for an outreach or volunteer opportunity. It’s an awesome excuse to get out of the office and bond as a team.

Last week, we spent an amazing day at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission. For the past 59 years, Albuquerque Rescue Mission has worked to end homelessness and hunger in downtown Albuquerque.

Albuquerque Rescue Mission is awash with fantastic and loving people who are deeply invested in the community they serve. As I scrubbed the mission’s kitchen down on Thursday morning, I marveled at the scale and efficiency of the organization. On the morning we volunteered, they served breakfast to more than 400 people!

Eight of us worked on a variety of tasks: prepping salads and slicing fruit, chopping green chile for stew, and cleaning the kitchen and cafeteria. After we polished off the kitchen, we helped sort and organize donated clothes, clean the mission’s grounds, and scrub graffiti and doodles from the walls. After just a few hours, we could physically see the impact we were making– and we had a great time!

If you run a business or live in the Albuquerque area, I encourage you to check out the Albuquerque Rescue Mission and look for ways to get involved. They need volunteer help every day!

If you can’t lend your time, please consider a donation or gift.  The mission routinely posts needs on its blog.
